About us

Marine Corps League Detachment 736 organized to promote the interest and to preserve traditions of the U.S. Marine Corps; strengthen the fraternity of Marines and their families; serve Marines, FMF Corpsmen, and FMF Chaplains in San Juan County, NM. On August 29, 2021 a group of Marines gathered together with common interests and camaraderie to encourage and support one another.  Together the group fundraised and held a cake cutting ceremony on November 10, 2021 at Porters Restaurant & Smokehouse in Farmington, New Mexico.

Soon after on 20 November 2021 the New Mexico Detachment Commandant, Ronald Barnard, swore in the newly rechartered Marine Corps League Detachment 736 leadership from that same group of Marines.  Attending the installation ceremony was the family of the late Navajo Code Talker, Marine Corps Corporal Wilfred Eli Billey. During that ceremony, they granted permission to rename the detachment after their family hero.

On Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 1800 hours, at the Farmington VFW Post 2182 was the ceremony of our National Charter Signing.  National Vice Commandant Russ Miller of the Rocky Mountain Division officially swore in the newly installed charter. Department of New Mexico Board of Trustees were also in attendance to witness the recharter of Marine Corps League, Corporal Wilfred Eli Billey Detachment 736 of San Juan County, New Mexico.
